Rides

NMVS hosts a myriad of group rides and training sessions throughout the season. It is a good idea to show up with thorn resistant tubes or some type of flat prevention, water or electrolyte replacement, food and cabfare. Just Show Up! All NMVS rides are open to any rider. Rides leave promptly. Riders generally start showing up about 10 minutes prior to leave time. If you are new to group riding, please take a moment to read the following:

The Saturday ride is among the best attended in the state. On a non-race weekend it is not uncommon to find between 20 and 35 riders ready to put in some miles. The ride leaves Starbucks Coffee, just west of Paseo del Norte and Wyoming. During the winter the ride leaves at 9:10 sharp. During the winter the group concentrates on riding distance at a medium tempo with the predictable "green sign" sprints and hill climb points. The routes are generally north through Bernalillo and beyond. All riders with basic riding fitness are accommodated by the group allowing dropped riders to rejoin. Duration: 40-120 miles. Summer rides will generally ride East through Tijeras Canyon. Once on the East side the group will select one of the various loops or a combination of several smaller loops. Intensity is greater than the winter rides. If Sunday is a race-day, we ride at or below tempo. Duration 30-120 miles.

The Sunday ride leaves from Starbucks on Central, just west of Carlisle. The time varies depending on the time of year. The route is generally west to the West Mesa and down through Rio Rancho ... less miles then the Saturday Ride.

Thursday night "Fingers" ride leaves Spain and Tramway at 6:00pm, beginning in March. From there the ride proceeds South until turning up Cloudview at the south end of Tramway. From there the ride works its way North up several of the "Finger Climbs". From March to August the ride finishes up on the penultimate "Middle Finger", Juan Tabo Picnic Grounds. Bring lights and rear flasher. Please contact Glenn Beard for details: gbeard@rodey.com
